Thoughtful harness design establishes the fundamental limits of manufacturability. Specifying a wire gauge that is too rigid for the required bend radius, or selecting incompatible contact plating for a connector, can easily compromise the assembly’s reliability long before production begins.

This chapter outlines the principles of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) for cable assemblies. It covers the careful selection of appropriate insulation materials, the definition of practical manufacturing tolerances, and the validation of the bill of materials (BOM) against our procurement and production environments.
